Valencia, March 5 – Under the motto “Women scientists and innovators leading the fight against climate change”, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities in collaboration with the Secretary of State for Equality, the Ministry of Ecological Transition and the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, is organizing an institutional event to mark International Women’s Day. An event to which Valencian Marisa Hernández, co-founder of the company Ingelia SL, has been invited to participate as a representative of Spanish women in the field of science and innovation.

The aim is to raise awareness of female scientists and innovators who are leading the fight against climate change, and to share and disseminate their visions, achievements, projects and experiences. Following the welcoming remarks by the Director of the Spanish Office of Climate Change, Valvanera Ulargui, the Secretary of State for Equality, Soledad Murillo, and the Secretary of State for Universities, Research, Development and Innovation, Ángeles Heras, a round table entitled “Women and climate change” will take place, in which Marisa Hernandez will participate along with five women with great professional careers and business and teaching prestige.

The panel is aimed at sharing and disseminating the visions, achievements and experiences of leading women in scientific and technical applications in the fight against climate change and will be moderated by María Josep Picó, National Award winner for Environmental Journalism.

An event that represents a new professional recognition for Marisa Hernández, industrial engineer, co-founder, CEO and director of Ingelia, one of the first companies in the world that has managed to convert waste into biochar on an industrial scale.

ROLE OF WOMEN

Although the number of women in research, innovation and business is increasing, there are still very few women who create innovative companies. For this reason, at an institutional level, we want to address the gender gap and recognise Spanish women who are at the forefront of innovation and entrepreneurship. This will help Spain and Europe to remain competitive and find solutions to social challenges.
